SUBSTITUTE TEACHER (9/18/25)
The Cornerstone School in Stratham, New Hampshire, is seeking substitute teachers for the 2025-26 school year. Our school operates its programs in a co-teaching model, so you will be joining another experienced teacher as you get to know the community in beautifully equipped Montessori environments. A Montessori credential is not required, though it is preferred, along with relevant experience.
THE POSITION
The Substitute Teacher assists in guiding children in our classrooms, which serve children ages 18 months to 14 years. Applicants must have previous experience working with children. Our highest need for substitutes is in our mixed-age 3-6 year old classrooms. Candidates should be familiar with whole child education and child-centered learning, which are at the core of Montessori philosophy and pedagogy. The substitute teacher would work alongside credentialed lead teachers and would be supported in growing their understanding of Montessori education. Successful candidates will be flexible and collaborative team members who demonstrate an ability to relate sensitively to people of all ages and backgrounds; above all, they will possess a deep and abiding love and respect for children.
Substitute teachers should have flexible availability Monday-Friday, September through June. July and August availability is a plus. Substitute Teachers are scheduled 8:00 to 1:00 or 3:00p for morning shifts, and 11:00 and 5:00p for afternoon shifts whenever possible. Afternoon (noon-5pm) availability is a plus! Hourly rate is commensurate with experience.
The substitute teacher is responsible for supporting a Montessori classroom environment and curriculum that understands the individual needs of the children in accordance with Cornerstone’s mission, Montessori principles, and AMS Code of Ethics. They will ensure compliance in accordance with state, federal, and local regulations and Cornerstone’s policies and procedures. The substitute teacher should hold a current First Aid and Pediatric CPR certification.
The substitute teacher will be respectful of children, parents, and colleagues, modeling Grace and Courtesy in all interactions. The teacher will help to ensure that equipment, materials, and facilities are clean and well-maintained.
